Most teeth with a root canal need a crown. This because when you do a root canal
you take away the artery, vein and nerve. Without the the blood supply the tooth doesn't get any moisture. Without moisture it dries out and becomes brittle. A brittle tooth can break so to prevent this you put a covering over the tooth which is the crown.
Crowns can also be used to attach bridges, cover implants and prevent cracked teeth from getting worse.
